Sockso music server

Postby viking60 » 23 May 2012, 12:52

Time to write up the Sockso music server installation.. I installed it from the AUR in Arch. It is Java based and completely platform independent.

There is no need to install so you can download and extract it to /opt.
It will work on Windows Mac and Linux you only need Java.
Once finished I chmoded linux.sh to 775 and started the script.
Now you will see the collection manager.
Pick the Collection flag and hit Add Folder; you wil then be asked for the path to your Music. Add and open it - you music will now be organized with subfolders if necessary.
The Music will be under Music (not shocking really :-D ) and you can now drag the tracks that you like over to the right to create a playlist.
You can give access to download and upload and you can require login and create users. Typical server stuff.
Now in you local nettwork you can access the music in a browser like this:
http://pc_in_the-music_room:4444
The port is 4444 and now you do not have to copy all those music files from computer to computer - you just access them and start to play.
That is good for the internal house party +1

But what about your nice friend who is absolutely tone deaf and makes you listen to Engelbert Humperdink every time you visit?
If you are good with fideling around with Routers and DNS services you can make your server available to the internet and use the link on the bottom left on your server control panel.

But I have no patience for that and use localtunnel like this:

Code: Select all

localtunnel -k ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub 4444

And then

Code: Select all

localtunnel 4444

This will generate the link everyone can use to connect to your music server as you guys have helped me testing here.

Now you can safely visit your tone deaf friend and access your playlist via his computer - and life is good again. :-D

I want to try this at some point.
