RecordItNow!!

At the Mandriva Forum, VictorR2007 posted about a KDE app that, apparently, is a frontend for recordmydesktop or, optionally, ffmpeg-recorder, with screenshot being a third option that is not so interesting: Victor's post.
It's a little hard to follow Victor's robo-translations but I think his participation is a sign of things to come from the new Mandriva-Russian collaboration. For some reason, I could use the links to install recorditnow-0.8-1.1bubmdv2010.1 and joschy-0.1-1bubmdv2010.1 from the x86_64 mirror directory but could not see all the rpms when I truncated the link; the page loading stopped at lib* packages.
Anyway, I've had an interest in this type of utility but very little background using such. For a small test, I tried two full-screen recordings. Differences I note:

Anyway, I've had an interest in this type of utility but very little background using such. For a small test, I tried two full-screen recordings. Differences I note:
- Using the RecordMyDesktop backend, the file is .ogv, relatively small, and there is an encoding pause after recording is stopped.
- Using ffmpeg-recorder as the backend, the .mp4 file is much larger but, it seems, all the encoding is done immediately, there is no pause after recording is stopped. This larger encoding is, also, smoother, the mouse-cursor activity is more completely recorded, clarity is similar.
- Also, ffmpeg-recorder did not seem to pick up the ambient sound of my space, out-of-the-box, anyway, while RecordMyDesktop did.

Ah ok after that it worked. It actually records 3d decently - great!
