Microsoft has released an open source development tool - Visual Studio Code - that has very little to do with the traditional Visual Studio.

This thing is Open source and can be used on all platforms (including Windows) and it supports several languages:

JavaScript, C#, C++, PHP, Java, HTML, R, CSS, SQL, Markdown, TypeScript, LESS, SASS, JSON, XML, and Python as well as many other common file formats.

You can Download Rpm and Deb files here in Arch and Manjaro you will have to compile it from AUR.

Is it IP and license free? Releasing is not free... dam scorpions

MS does not have FOSS mentality and they want to hijack Linux. I hope the community knows what they are doing.

You have good reason to be skeptical but this is supposed to be a free Open source Editor.
The code is on Github.

But I haven't read all the license stuff yet so there might be some sneaky stuff there.

Well there is information on how to shut off the "phone home" Telemetry stuff, so you can avoid the spying but it should not have been on by default.

Exactly... why having it in the 1st place? For the unaware user is activated, if they get caught, here is to turn it off. My logic dictates, if there is a line of code to do some, it has to be a backdoor to enable it remotely.
