Firefox, ever since they started with the plugincontainer crap, runs like a turtle on valium.
The others aren't any better really. Chrome's incomplete AFAIC, so it's out too.
All I want to do is be able to surf the web. Is that too much to ask?

not so much at browsers but at the constant updates 
while you are trying to download a distro it gets slowed down
because your browser wants to download its updates first.
and the annoying part is in vista and 7 your computer will automatically shutdown and restart after it downloads the updates
so you have to go back in and restart the distro download
