Just booted into Arch, and of course, first thing to do is run pacman -Syu.

I see there's an update for mplayer:

Boss, I see there's also one for pacupdate.

Let's hope this gets it.

Re: Effing Arch servers!

So now I gotta blacklist mirror.kangaroo.net too?

Code: Select all

miro-3.0.2-2-i686        28.3M   92.9K/s 00:05:11 [######################]  29%
error: failed retrieving file 'mplayer-31774-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz' from archlinux.mirror.kangaroot.net : Not logged in

Is there an effing server I don't have to blacklist? Crap like this makes the updates take longer!

Pacupdate is off my box. I updated it not that long ago - but no luck. pacman-notifier does it all now, and it is perfect. Also; do the repo magic to avoid those kind of problems.
To find the 8 most updated mirrors and to sort them by speed:

Code: Select all

# reflector -l 8 -r -o /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Obviously you have to install reflector first.

Okay. Installed pacman-notifier. Can't find it in the menu. Don't want to start it with CLI, 'cause then I'd have a terminal open from now 'til doomsday. Where is it in your Gnome menu? Thanks. (I can't believe this is my 73rd installation of Arch and there's still things I'm learning about it).

You are not crazy! I cannot find it in the menu either :D But it has to be auto started to be of any use. If you do that you will get a nice blue pacman in your tray - If he turns yellow there is an update. And he also gives you a list over the updates, you can install them directly from there.

So like, I'd need to put it in startup, then logout/login?

Fuuuuuuuuuuccckk. I can't do that right now. :(

I'm gonna split off this thread. Sigh. More work (and am also going thru some 300 emails that I have to respond to. Sigh)

For those who don't know, splitting off a thread can take a week if the thread's very long. And, one has to be very very careful with it.

I think I'm brilliant at it.

Yes (but no need to logout/in)
