[solved] lack of xscreensaver options in Arch.

In Fedora and every other distro I know, I install xscreensaver and all the packages for it, and that installs a second "Screensaver" icon to my System-->Preferences--> menu, which I can set up preferences for screensavers; which ones to run, when they switch to another one, etc. I didn't get that in Arch. I am wondering what I install to get this? I nothiced there's no xscreensaver-base in Arch. Thanks.

Ok I have it working here. Lemme see what I have done....
I use Gnome-screensaver (I have the huge advantage that I do not look at the Fedora install

) It is under System->user.
I have gnome-screensaver installed of course. And you need
notification-daemonWhen I am loged out someone can leave a message for me on the login screen - nice.
In General - if you want a good system menu you must install:

I have all that installed. Still no second icon for Screensaver in System-->Preferences. The one I'm talking about turns off gnome-screensaver, and activates xscreensaver. It also gives two "Screensaver"s in that menu. One for gnome-screensaver, one for xscreensaver.

Do you have a menu for screensaver under System->Preferences at all? I don't know why you want the xscreensaver. I don't have it installed, but I do have the screensaver menu entry under System-Preferences. Does the Gnome screensaver work?

I have one Screensaver entry, that being for gnome-screensaver. I need the other one. I like it. If you have Mandriva, whatever, install xscreensaver to it, and you'll see what I mean.
I have no way at this time to edit my screensaver options like which ones run (and a lot of them I don't want to run), how long they run for, where they grab images from, or any other options; nor do I have option to start xscreensaver (which I really prefer over gnome-screensaver).
Thanks.

Well I have options and can chose gnome feet or cosmos or random. Will install xscreensaver and report back...
Aha I see what you mean! There is a sh.. load of choices now, in my gnome-screensaver. You do not get an extra menu entry, but it is incorporated in the menu entry that is there.

Not what I'm talking about isn't.
In the gui I'm talking about, you can tick and untick what screensavers you want to run in the list of them, you can tell it how many minutes before it switches to another screensaver, there's Advanced settings to tell the screensavers what images to grab, what to use to run them with (gl or whatever else you want; there's a list) the works.
I'm almost positive the package I'm needing is xscreensaver-base (not in the Arch repos, or in yaourt)
You're still thinking gnome-screensaver. This is for xscreensaver.

Hit ALT+F2 and write
xscreensaver-demo.
Stop the gnome screensaver
Start the xscreensaver
Do your stuff
You are happy now

To put it in your menu use
alacarteI had to put xscreensaver in the startup programs. But it is working fine here now - changing the screen every 2 minutes and activates after 6 minutes and locks after 10 minutes.
I found the
xscreensaver-command -activate command useful for testing the stuff without the wait.

Thank you! Exactly the thing I was looking for (and I think I'll add it to the menu too)
You are a god!

Glad I was able to help. I will have to change my nick to
Odin now

Although my
Ravens have already helped me a lot.

Actually I noticed that xscreensaver was automatically added to the Gnome menu under Programs->"Other" (or something like it. I have Norwegian menu).
I prefer to have it under System->Administration so I will just remove it with alacarte.

I don't have it there. Also, I've run into a lil' something with that in Edit Menus so I will have to open a new thread about that.
