Linus Ditches Gnome3

Postby viking60 » 03 Sep 2011, 14:26

ImageLinus Torvalds the father of Linux ditched KDE some while ago. Now he ditches Gnome3 too.
Having made an earlier defection from KDE to Gnome, Linus Torvalds has now rejected both in favor of Xfce. It’s only natural that the actions of the creator of the Linux kernel would attract extra scrutiny, and I think that his decision is reflective of a wider disenchantment amongst long-term Linux users.

“I want my sane interfaces back. I have yet to meet anybody who likes the unholy mess that is gnome-3.”

“In gnome3, the developers have apparently decided that it's "too complicated" to actually do real work on your desktop, and have decided to make it really annoying to do.”

“I'm using Xfce. I think it's a step down from gnome2, but it's a huge step up from gnome3. Really.”

Now come come Linus, you are just being conservative :-D

Then he best hurry the hell up and add those features making it much more customisable that I'm needing! I wanna ditch KDE and Gnome too! Seriously, I'm debating on going Evil Monkey or E-16 or something!

Yes I get the anger about lack of flexibility.

One of he things that I think why KDE and GNOME got in the way they are now is because they are chasing Apple and MS on the Eye Candy War.

People are so gullible and feeble that will bite on anything that shines, even if is the same ol' junk wrapped on a golden gift wrap.

So using Xfce is more of a "step back" on the marketing stand point. However, is nice to have a choice of Desktop Environment.

I tried Moblin, gee! Looks ok but is very buggy, locked up on me several times.

BTW, computers now day are very powerful so they can handle the Eye Candy really good.

Eye candy!!! That's why I say Linux is becoming too much like Windows! I don't give a rat's ass about your eye candy, or your smart phone PC screens! I just want the damn thing to work!

The average user wants eye candy.

If you want the OS to succeed you have to have it. On the Linux side, there is nothing wrong with having more desktop environments. If you do not like the eye candy you can switch to a more simpler one. That is an advantage that MS and Apple does not have.

Yes, some eye candy is good. But WINDOWS eye candy is NOT good. Linux eye candy needs to be LINUX eye candy.
