There is a new Linux distro on the market. ROSA.
It is based on Mandriva.
Hmm.. help me out here: ROSA - that does sound familiar....

I tried this livedvd, which, at a timestamp of December 11, made me think it was newer than the Mandriva 2011 isos. However, it gave me the same black screen, keyboard unresponsive that all the Mandriva publications did. :(

POCA in Castellano means "Less".

I know, Cyrillic Ps are Rs and Cs are Ss... +1

The potential sad thing about this is that our options are reduced. Mandriva has been one of the most important distros for a decade and there have been several forks.
PCLOS being the most established one. Then there is Mageia that barely has consolidated itself, but is the closest to Mandriva 2010, Unity etc.
Many have considered the diversity in Linux to be a bad thing.
Now we are left with a few clear options on the RPM side Like Fedora and Centos. And Debian, and Ubuntu with forks on the Debian side.
+ some special distros like Arch and Gentoo.

Mandriva as a driving force could be history - we don't know yet. That might influence the forks too. I don't think there are some automated mechanisms that necessarily will make Mandriva-Users jump to a Mandriva fork.

It could very well happen that they pick Fedora or even Mint.
That way Mandriva could crumble and disappear like the very first distro: Ygdrasil - who remembers that today?
It has not been possible for the people in Charge to make money on Mandriva. I believe that this would have been different with different owners.
Today Mandriva is a French/Russian "business" - both famous for their bureaucracy , and not for efficiency.
I can't help thinking that Mandriva would have been a thriving business with German origin.....

Wild speculations but we are invited to it, by the bankruptcy publication ( I am not sure that threat should have been published - It still would have worked internally).
Then again I asked for it, so who am I to complain :-D
The speculations in themselves are bad for business - but I think we are beyond that now. This is simply about survival, after that there will be a major task for the management to create confidence in Mandriva again.
I guess I am saying that it is hard to believe that this good distro did not make any money while more inferior distros have managed just that.
I don't want Mandriva to die, because Mandriva matters, and we all know that Mandriva has a magic origin.
So it is time to pull something spectacular out of the hat....

Um, if I may interject, I see not what socialism has to do with it or not. Socialism is actually better than this capitalist crapola we have now.

No it isn't. Point is; don't start that general discussion here - we have a forum for that.
I do not think Mandriva can be accused of capitalism - more the lack thereof. The tragedy being that the product has been good enough all along IMO.

Is more of a gag.

A good example, if you watch Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson makes fun of the French for been Socialists and designing cars that are very awful; same with the Russians. Or lets say, British electrical systems with Italian quality... a mix for disaster :T

I have dealt with French engineering designers (seems like they are never at work) and if will make the Bicycle team faster they will cut all the cyclist balls (joke in reference of Lance Armstrong, winning and Testicular Cancer with a dash of French mentality) and Russian engineers that have such a Draconian and Spartan way of cost cutting measures...

If I have to explain the joke is not funny...

Well, I am born and raised US Citizen but my dad is from Spain.
Most of his teaching is about what is on the world and been in the military shows even more how other cultures think and act.

You need to watch for my humor, is more complex than a pie on the face. ;)

By the way my dear K... Socialism is about more and bigger Gov and that is why we are in trouble in the 1st place.
Europe is going on a collision course to the point that Spain is reintroducing the Peseta. IMHO, they seems to be getting ready for a change.

Just to veer a bit off the topic....

Spain gave so many millions of Euros to a Central American country (forgot which one) for infrastructure. They are pushing for 1st gen Spaniards living outside Spain for Dual Citizenship; therefore more people more assets to print more money. Pushing the Peseta back in circulation. Spain is getting bail out money from the EU...

My prediction...

Spain gave Euros that in turn is a credit on the EU Economy. With the reintroduction of the Peseta, the EU will pick the debt (EU is going to pay for some of the infrastructure in America) and Spain will make an Economical Alliance with the Latin American countries. That is how Spain is going to get out of the EU mess.

Ok back in topic.
