I caught wind of this fork of Puppy, Pussy Linux, and dd'ed the usb image to a 2G Data Traveller that is lying around for various such purposes. It is only a beta preview but seems quite capable, configurable with debian software and user tweaks, includes the all-important (to me) 'persistance' capability, so that I can configure certain things, install software, and it is still there at next boot, saved to my reiserfs-formatted 'live-rw' partition on the key. I like this sort of thing, posting from it right now!

Hm interesting. It uses the Rox-filer DE. But I wonder what is gained by moving from to Debian? Must be good though, because Gizmo does approve

I think it provides the similar benefits of Puppy: live distro, small, practical on little devices like usb key, works on a variety of hardware, including low ram, slow cpu, etc. Sort of a toolbox distro for super IT guy, if I understand your question. IOW, I am not aware of a simply Debian distro that does similar, fits on a CD or such.

p.s. I just installed the Dropbox deb and it just works. I synced the usb key installation only to use one particular folder (directory) for syncing. Otherwise, my dropbox account will fill the key. Have to be careful what I am adding to the 800 MB live-rw partition.

Yeah put clam on it and you can save Windows computers. I love those rescue "CD's". I think Puppy/Pussy outdoes KNOPIX too. I don't think you can save anything on KNOPIX.
