Windows help, please?

From my mom, as I'm out of town on another computer, and time is limited on it, I am unable to help her with this at this time. From what she sent:
On the Start menu, All Programs, Microsoft Office (2003), she simply dragged Powerpoint onto the desktop instead of doing the smart thing and clicking to see if there was a "create a shortcut" button. Never mind, it was very late at night. Anyway, she now has PPt on the desktop and not amongst those programs under Microsoft Office. The upshot is that when she tries to create a PPt, it's fine; BUT after it's closed it can't be opened (it opens but with a "somethings is corrupted" message and then closes). I can copy the PPt file to my laptop (which has a really old version of PPt) and it opens and works just fine, so I figure the problem on my main computer must have something to do with my dumb mistake. Now:

QUESTIONS: "My Computer" has "Add or Delete Programs"; when I click on Microsoft Office there is a "if you are having trouble with a program you can click on the REINSTALL button to fix it." Will this put PPt back where it belongs? Or, is it possible to drag the PPt icon on the desktop into this "Add/Delete Programs" Microsoft Office file? Or, there must be a copy of the program on the system backup external drive (remember? you helped me buy it at Office Max whenever it was you were here), but I'm very very fuzzy about what I should do with it.

I can, of course, always take my hard drive to a computer guru and have him fix it, but I'm terribly broke right now.

ADVICE? THANKS! Sigh . . .

Anyone got some help for her?

Thanks!

If you have the Office CD you will have a "repair" function. This will fix it. And also a Reinstall will fix it.
It is probably not that damaged but it is hard to identify what's going on from the descriptiion (I am confused by the "add delete program " description).

I think she moved the executable from where it was linked.

My advice is to give her Open Office :D

Anyway see if is in the Recycle Bin or is located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\POWERPNT.EXE

Here... C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office
Is nothing but a shortcut to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\POWERPNT.EXE

I do not have those problems at home, my mum in law uses Mandriva :B Se called me like 3 times this past year with connections issues, just hiccups with her router.

Yeah, was kind of thinking she just lost the executable in her Start menu.

*May* be headed home today, depending on how Dave is doing. If so, I should return here tomorrow. Am on a computer at the hospital now.

Thanks so much to both of you. :)
