File transfers very slow (Arch)

I had two file transfers that have gone very slowly, and another one in nautilus as well that is very slow. The first was using 'rsync -avvh /path/to/source/folder/ /path/to/destination/folder/', both being external usb drives. 260Gbs total transfer, it took over 3 days, with average file size being approximately 7Gbs. I then started another, same conditions, except for average file size being 5Mbs. It has been going now for 2 days, and is nowhere near the half-way mark. As a test, I've started a file transfer of a folder using Nautilus, a 38Gb total transfer, with average file size being around 300Mbs, with Nautilus reporting 20 hours to go. I am wondering why these tranfers are taking so long? It was always before, that I could complete 300Gbs using rsync in approximately 5 to 6 hours. Any clue what's up? Thanks.

The second transfer using rsync took over four days in Arch. Ridiculous! Then, tried an 8.5Gb transfer with it in Arch - almost 3 hours.
So, as a test, I switched to Fedora and tried that same 8.5Gb transfer. Took 11 minutes. Then, still in Fedora, tried a 250Gb transfer with rsync, took just over 3 hours. The transfer rate was much faster, too, at over a Mb per second.
No clue at all what's up here in Arch? It's only Arch that's doing this. I haven't tried it from KDE in Arch, only in Gnome.
Thanks.

You had the exact same situation in both cases? If you left some of the already copied files naturally the second attempt will be faster.

No, I didn't leave them. I started over after deleting.

Still no clue? I'll tell you what *I think* it is. Gnome 3. Period. I never had this issue until Gnome 3 (which I don't have on Fedora; I ran it out of Gnome 2 on F14). There's something about Gnome 3 I think, so it gets another thumbs down from me.
