Is there some reason you want to use Limewire specifically? Are you referring to the P2P file-sharing program that has the player in it, or something different?
The only thing I can speak on is the P2P file-sharing program, and that is, that Mandriva's version never worked awfully well, and so one would have to get the version at the site, which is a tenuous situation at best.
Limewire is under court order to stop distributing its software, so Mandriva needs to stop distributing it as well, along with other distros that still distribute it.
Your best bet, IMO, would be to install
Clementine player, an independent player from the desktop, but mimics KDE3's Amarok. I use it rather than Amarok 2.x, which I detest. The sound is wonderful. The only drawback is that it can be at times, a bit of a resource hog. Point it to your music library, it imports it and you can take it from there what you want to listen to. Give it a shot (it should by now be in the Mandriva repos), and another player as well in Mandriva. IF by that time, you got no sound in any of them, then we'll need to have a look at pulseaudio, and possibly your sound card.
If you pull up a terminal,
maximize it, and type in "top" without the quotes, at some point you should see pulseaudio come up in the left-hand column, where programs that are running are listed (you need to keep scrolling up and down with your eyes relatively fast). If you don't see it come up there relatively soon, then we have a pulseaudio issue.
Oops, one more thing. I would like to see the output in terminal of "lsmod | grep sound" (copy/paste it into a terminal without the quotes, then copy/paste the output here), so I know what kind of sound we're dealing with here.
