Warning: Not directly computer related

I am writing an instructions paper for school on how to install Linux. I have all of the notes together, and the steps in note form, but there is something I'm missing that I have to, per paper requirements, have. That would be screenshots of the steps. Doesn't matter what distro they're from, as this is a paper which speaks of the general basic steps. I can even mix up the distros (one for one step, another for another). I've searched out google, and found extremely little that displays screenshots of the installation process like most used to. Most instructions that are on the internet now that I've found, are just in text. Even the Mandriva wiki only shows one pic of one of the steps of their instructions.

Here's the caviat: The graphics or photos (screenshots, whatever) need to come from open source sites, where I won't run into copyright issues when using them for this paper. This part makes it that much harder to find them.

My notes and the instructions paper instructions are found here and here. A sample instructions paper that I was given from the class is found here.

We use the APA format for the paper itself, written in what they call chunks.

Any love here? Thanks.

Have you checked the Mandriva online documentation?
Since Mandrake times, these docs have contained a liberal sprinkling of screenies, might differ between release versions but, from the 2009 Spring Introducing to Mandriva Linux: HTML e.g:

Yeah, checked the Mandriva wiki. ^^

Didn't go into specific versions there though. Maybe that's what I need to do. I was thinking they were heavy on the screenies of installation too, but the page that came up in the search had one. Only one. Will dig a bit deeper there.

Yeah, I read your post. Docs is not the wiki. Click "Documentation" on this page: http://www.mandriva.com/en/support/ Not "wiki".

I thought I said "linux installation," not "Mandriva installation"???

This is turning out to be Mandriva installation. I rearranged everything. :p

Ugh.

Anyone else know of any other ones? This is supposed to be generic.

Thanks.

All of the major distros provide installation guides that include screenshots of the process, such as:

Funny. The only one I didn't look at. Jim, they do have documentation. Lots of them don't have screenshots of the installation steps any more. I'll check that link, but I dunno. Edit: Yeah, they're there.

I'm done with the thing now. Just left it as how to install Mandriva. :p

It has mega formatting issues; had problems with LibreOffice and numbering bullets. Also, with text wrap around graphics (which isn't supposed to be there - it's supposed to be at the bottom of the graphics only). The instructor nonetheless gave me an A - she knows I am a stickler for these things, and that something serious to have happened for it to come out like this. I had fixed these things a thousand times, seemed like, both in LibreOffice and MS Office, and the fixes wouldn't stay. I thought I had them staying when I handed it in; they didn't stay. The paper is here, although I don't like it much.
And, the proverbial disclaimer: This paper is copyright me, Kimberly A. Garren, @2012. You may not use it, and you may not download it without expressed and implicit permission from me, except for viewing purposes only.

Only because I have to - it's Acadamia, and for it, being a future instructor, I'm going to do things legally. I don't need students using it for their paper.

URL change for the paper; I'd forgotten to protect it. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/34011598/kgarr ... -paper.odt

PM me for the password to open it; it wouldn't just open read-only without a password. :p

Screw that - all I care about is that it opens read-only.

Well Academica is the cradle of open source, so sharing is the name of the game. And when you are using pics from Linux Wikies I wonder if that is not GPL?
