Windows Explorer crashes

Win 8.1, Windows Explorer has begun crashing when I right-click in the left pane to get properties on a drive, or even on other things. It doesn't do it when I left-click; however it does take forever to load whatever it is I left-click.
It doesn't do this in the right-hand pane.
How can I narrow down what's doing this? Event Viewer?

Install
FreeCommander just make sure you do not install all that junkware that comes with every Windows download.

Aye, I always take the advanced route to install, just for that reason.
Edit: Oi though. I can only download the 32-bit version without donating..

Crap!
How about
MultiCommanderAnd
Explorer++ is Open source so it won't nag you. That looks like a good one to me. But it does mention the right-click bug that it can inherit from explorer.
Why does Explorer++ crash when I right-click on a file?
Usually this is caused by a bug in a third-party extension handler. Using an application such as ShellExView, you can selectively disable extensions until you find the one that is causing the crash.

Sorry I got involved in some things and went ahead and donated. However the download won't come through until tomorrow for it so I'm trying Multicommander. I figured it was a whopping three euros so why not on the other one.

What I like about both of these is split panes.
