VLC complaint against Apple

VideoLAN's copyright complaint

As it turns out, VLC for iOS is developed by a 3rd party developer called Applidium. Apple's iTunes terms allow VLC to only be installed on 5 devices. This is a form of DRM, and as you may know, VLC is open source and distributed under the GPL. That means Apple's DRM scheme is unacceptable to the VideoLAN foundation.

Why does Apple need VLC in the first place? They will not comply with the GPL anyway.

Same reason Microsoft thinks they do - they're idiots.

What really gets me about this is that they attack open source where they can to protect their own wallet. Yet they have no shame in using it themselves. When they are trying to sell or restrict what is free and developed by others for that purpose, then I can understand that the limit is reached. :T
Apple is based on the free BSD. They are as we "speak" suing HTC over a patent (They invented e-mail or something).

Well, we all know Al Gore invented the internet, therefore had to invent email.
