Simple samba tip

Postby viking60 » 21 Apr 2010, 16:53

I was struggling along trying to make my network communicate in Arch. Samba requires the fam daemon and it is important that it is loaded before samba in /etc/rc.conf on the daemons line.
FAM is poorly maintained and gaim is to be prefered. So I deinstalled fam and installed gaim.
Gaim does not need to run as a daemon like FAM; it activates when needed.
It did wonders for my network.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.
