I think it is true that the iPad is selling more than all the notebooks in the world combined! And that you cannot get any real work done on them, but for private entertainment and social media it is good enough, or even perfect because they are easy to carry around.

That social media thing is the main area of use for pads and phones. But writing a report (remember the old days where writing was considered useful?) is still best done on a keyboard with a decent screen.
Any employer who would replace notebooks for Pads would be trowing money out of the window.

The Norwegian parliament invested in iPads for all the politicians - and we all know that they are throwing money out of the window and then grant some money for a fast working comity to find out why the money are thrown out of the window.
The latest is that they will also finance a comity to investigate why the first fast working comity is not working fast enough.
As long as the comity members all get paid they would be stupid to end their mission quickly because then the funding will be gone due to an actual result:
But our politicians are not stupid - they are aware of this danger -
so they have appointed a comity to investigate it.....with iPads...

I bought my wife a Kindle Fire. She uses a lot but I am going to get her a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 That would be a better household device. She does reads a lot and a bigger screen is easier for her to read. The Kindle will be more of a Travel Tablet.

At work we are kind of exploring the possibility of using tablets. Is not going to happen yet due to many obstacles, from Ignorance (big wigs thinks that is a toy) to hardware and form factor limitations (CATIA and CAD).

The big wigs seem to be right IMHO. It can be useful for transporting data and presenting stuff on the big screens. Again; due to the transportability. But doing the actual work on it seem to be a tall order.
But I can see why people are fascinated - I was pretty impressed myself when I made the android phone control my XBMC-machine that was connected to my TV.
So i get that it is OK for private use.
Maybe in a year or two I will even fold and get a smartphone myself, but I am still fighting that spying gadget to the best of my ability and constantly loosing ground...So it is a matter of choosing the best one and that is Android based phones at the moment, since Apple has gone completely bananas and even patented the right to control your camera.
But that does only make Google a little less worse....

That is why I am still holding on my Blackberry Bold 9000.

Her Samsung Galaxy III S arrived and I must say is a sweet phone.

Creeps me out the front facing cam but is ok for her, she is all over FB so one more thing does not hurt.

I placed the HTC Inspire to rest and perhaps can be used as a Network/Internet phone with Skype. Have not tried yet but still connected to my Network even without the SIM chip on it.

I need to download Skype and see if does the trick.
