Haven't gotten to it yet. My next furlough isn't until next month.

And, no. I am not one of those who is in the gang of appreciating dumb-downed kool-aid centric eye-candy b.s. - I appreciate my challenges, thank you. It's what makes Linux Linux, and not Windows.

There is no challenge - like a good virus infection! In fact Linux is a good way of fixing Windows there, since it is impossible to remove the virus from a running Win system.

That's very true. Whenever someone comes to me saying they have a virus, I tell them that's it for your data, everything pal. Time to reformat - with LINUX this time. If they say no, I tell them to take their business elsewhere.

To this day, I still have 10 business machines running Arch on tap, and 20 PCs with it. Never have gotten a call that anything's breaking on them.

LOL You are right of course! Arch is surprisingly stable even with the AUR packages I have installed with yaourt (it is great!).

yaourt isn't realy supposed to be unstalbe though... Just not supported by the default pacakge manager ^^

Skype was the one thing i never got working 100% in any of those "easy" distros, in arch it was yaourt -S bin32-skype, and bam no problem worked out of the box
Pitty there is no Ventrilo client for linux yet, the last thing i need before i can actually start gaming on windows. wine plays the games just fine, but to talk on Ventrilo i need to click it so it is the "active" application, that doesn't really work if i am to game and talk at the same time :P

and for arch and the flashplugin, i love it. Flash is usualy the second problem i run into when using 64 bit linux, not anymore ^^

Skype runs fine for me on anything I try/do.

What I do is download the static tarball (direct download link), extract it in /home, and I'm off 'n running.

Works 100%.

Hmm, well might be something with my soundcard then, because on any other distro if i got the mic working i would only have sound on one ear :P

Are you using that specific version of it (static tar ball)?

right now i'm using Arch where it works, and that's most propably the static package since arch uses tarbals for installation.
But on the other distros i was using the deb/rpm etc.. packages for that spesific Package manager.

Those don't work. Neither does the dynamic tarball.

Use the static tarball. Yes, even in Arch.
