It is a tradition and someone has to do it.
This time a developer and programmer and analyst that likes to get paid has declaired Linux dead in the phone and tablet market.
(You have got to read this one - this guy calls himself professional)
You see; Android is not Linux it is just built on top of Linux +1 As is Mandriva Suse Redhat Fedora Ubuntu +++ but I guess that Windows is no Windows it is just built on top of DOS.
And Apple is not Apple it is only built on top of BSD.
Talk about trolling for traffic..... :berserk2
Or maybe he is not trolling, in which case he is stupid. His employer must be embarrassed of having such a "professional" on the payroll.

Here is a copy of my answer over there that probably not will make it through the moderation :-D
I felt a bit sorry for this "analyst" But after several well meant corrections; It is not even possible to create a "what I really meant" scenario.
There is no other way than admitting that Android is Linux or making the claim that Linux does not exist.
By this definition Redhat or Centos or Suse or Ubuntu are not Linux either.

The definition seems to be: "If it is successful it is not Linux".

Comforting then that what the rest of the world call Linux is extremely successful.
All the Supercomputers in the world run on Linux (by the normal definition) and most of the "gadgets" run on Linux. There is a niche in between called traditional PC, that is getting increasingly narrower these days.
In the private market tablets replace them and often/mostly with Linux. You are pretty alone in calling Android something else than Linux.
"Analyzing" with a definition like that is.....pretty exotic.

Poor Mike Gualtieri :-D But to show my good will and no hard feelings: I have heard there is an opening at McDonald's (PS remember that the Hamburger is not made on top of goat meat)

Edit: My answer made it through :-D
