Fedora 38

Well, it needs work. On installation, there are several things that aren't happening, that should be, IMHO.

First of all, if you install with UEFI, it doesn't set up grub.

You also don't get opportunity to set up a root password.

There's other things like that, that are weird that they weren't included on installation.

Anyone have any latest news/gossip on this distro?

Not me... I have not been in IT in more than a decade; switched carrers to my aviation roots. Now I am working for Boeing in an engineer capacity. The pay is too darn good to pass, so went back to the workforce.

Fedora .....

i use at moment only fedora and have done a Scriptfile for fully configuring in in right way..
but at Anaconda --- so the installer of Fedora 38 .. (before comes the "Webinterface installer" like i know)
have a root-configuration, under the User.. (or over it ?hmmm..) .. Config, you have to scroll down the whole configuration interface to up, then do you see the root-configurator, so, if your screen to small on top/down can you scroll the interface if you have a squer corner Monitor (so an old one), there is no scrollbar at side, because someone it not see, but there still a root-configurator, try again installing... so, if you have not a root-login, should there exist a sudo command or a su command, to have in any case a root-done, therewith can you execute "sudo passwd" and set a rootpasswd.. what should works.. but i have not try it a long time not again .. or you restart a Systemsetup again via boot..

By the way, why do you activating UEFI in the Bios ? why do you not use Lagency+Uefi or only Lagency mode or how it names
(i have the right writing word not directly in the head, to less need ;) :coffee_cup: ) :C
And then start the System and install it without UEFI, so, pure the Systemdisk/usb without UEFI ... and install it in the old way.. UEFI need only in the Factorys and not in Private where you own controlling the Computer .. UEFI and TPM i's found by bad MS who press up us as user the "Security" for the System.. and this is imho bullshit.. Only Windows 11 is need TPM .. not linux( so the whole Distros ) dont need TPM in any form ..

I personally hate UEFI and TPM fully, because it's in the cense of Security n' Savety press up the "Security" to the Peoples who it not whant, if you looking on Win11, because it works only with the both Security fasilitys .. therewith are people forced new Hardware and make more for the trash... and make more harm to the environment with plasic garbage ... (although all the computers could still work for the next 20 years)

how ever, the Root-Account configurator should exist, if you scroll down with the mouse on the Configuration screen ...
:cheers
best

p.s.: R_Head, cool ! :) more possibility's at the Account at the bank :) *thumpsup*

I hate UEFI too; however, this particular laptop runs like total crap without it. I also didn't want the hassle of turning it off, and all that, so left the system as-is. It doesn't matter now; I got it going with grub in the end, and set up a root password from there. No need (or, unfortunately, time) to reinstall. :)
I will remember that though, for if/when I do have to reinstall, Blackie. Thank you. :)
