Spam control

Some of you (in fact many) have been banned without even having made one single post. This is due to the fact that you are listed on sights like this:
http://www.stopforumspam.com/search
(Enter your e-mail IP or username).
If you feel this is wrong you must get yourself removed from those sights. The control is made on IP, username, and e-mail address. If any of them are listed, you are banned here, without any opportunity to post. We will not wait for the actual spam to occur. If you have spammed any forum on the net for any reason, you are out of here!
To those who are innocent - we apologize. And urge you to get things set right on those spam sites.
To those spamming here for the first time - remember you will be reported to those sights.
At the moment this is the "most wanted" list:

So, I get spam at, occasionally, a furious pace wherein whois reports the email address domain, always ending in .info, is registered by enom, inc., notorious for many years as spammer-friendly, I come to find out @ google, and belongs to one individual in Utah. If my isp would filter all .info, that would be fine with me, for a while, as I only have one .info that I might like to hear from and could whitelist that, perhaps.

However, in reality, I can send all manner of reports of spam to http://www.enom.com/help/abusepolicy.aspx and get a comforting robo-reply but this slime justs goes on and on, generating unique .info domains continuously.

So, the email address, afaics, is never the same, it always ends in .info, always registered by enom, and whois returns one individual as owner of these domains. Is there some way to affect him with stopforumspam.com ? Thx. :berserk2

I think Enom is really only providing the service. They cannot be blamed for all the idiots using them. But that is not forum spam. Forum spam can be used to invade your mailbox though. Some ISP's give you the opportunity to check against blacklists and automatically block mails from there.
Like this one:
http://whatismyipaddress.com/blacklist-check

Write bjoernvold.com in the search field or any of your .info friends and see if it is blacklisted. You could try to ask your ISP to automatically block anybody listed. By doing this you may be blocking some innocent sites - but you have to break some eggs to make good pannekaker. :-D

When listed, the providers will check and throw out the sinners (or give the poor "Bad word describing a person" hacked by a sinner the opportunity to fix it) and clear their name. If they cannot clear it, they probably belong there.
So blocking everyone on the list is a good policy.
We do catch harvesters here via projecthoneypot.org:
Image
As you can see we are under constant attacks - and we deal with them harshly :berserkf
This is only a small part of those we have helped catching. They will be tracked down and dragged to court where ever possible. Like in Europe where spam is illegal.
So spammers here can potentially find themselves in a world of sh.... faster then they know.
As you can see - it helps! From over 100000 attacks from one IP some years ago we are down to a few incidents in 2011 and boy are they in trouble
That Canadian site is British Colombia and has mainly Chinese mail servers associated with it.
Edit:
Just to explain: A harvester is a bot/software that collects data from webpages. So therefor you should not enter your e-mail address as is in a forum or in a signature.
Here is an example for wannabe idiots:

Yes, well enom advertizes a TOS that prohibits spam, they provide that reporting page for spam that originates from one of their registered names, and they do...........

My isp (Earthlink) will block up to 500 email addresses but this guy makes a new one for every spam I get from him, sometimes 20 in a day.

So, maybe there is some spoofing going on but idk, each whois turns up his name and contact info. :wall:

Anyway, nothing to do but gripe, once in a while. Image :confused

But could not Earthlink integrate the blacklist automatically blocking everything on it?
(Eh well even if they do they could be that odd 20 mails behind ofcourse  )

I'm probably tempting fate by writing this, but for several years now my ISP has had very effective spam filtering. No more than one or two spam emails per month make it to my Inbox.

Earthlink has been in decline ever since they acquired my original isp, Mindspring, about 10 years ago. The dsl is limited by my old copper lines to the CO but adequate, good enough for the price. As it is, I've kept just a minimal email account with them, for the sake of not having to change that and try to get everybody to use the new one, and gone back to a term with Comcast cable for the broadband part, for current connectivity.

Even if Earthlink could provide the resources, each spam from this guy is from a brand new .info domain, could never block him by email address.

OTOH, it is just for situations like this that God invented Image

I hope he has patented it or else MS will claim it
Since you are so interested in bad webhosts:
This site has been targeted by three bad webhosts. One Japanese One German and One Dutch. And the last time was back in 2010.
The last Spamserver that had a go at us was in Bangladesh.

We have 7 Rulebreakers:
It's basically a robot that disobeys robots.txt or other standard rules of good bot behavior.
They are from Germany, South Africa, US (4) and China.
(robots.txt can be used to exclude unwanted bots).

They do not all have to be bad and criminal but it is a good indicator.

The top 5 spam-sending countries are:

#1China (10.0%)
#2 Brazil (9.0%)
#3 United States (7.2%)
#4 Germany (6.4%)
#5 Russia (6.0%)

The Guys that sometimes register here and post some crap with lots of links are Comment spammers.
This activity is rather innocent and not very high tech. They do this to get higher site rankings. And do not compromise your security.
The sites that are promoted by Comment spammers (Like Jerseys etc) are listed by IP on honeypot.
These guys are normally out of here within 24h together with all their posts.
The automated bot comment spammers have not been able to get around our registration controls for some time. So we have lost them for the time being.

To make an example I have kept the last sorry jerk on the members list.
He is mikesaturday and spams from the Philipines.
IP 121.54.84.246 username mikesaturday email: mikesaturday17@yahoo.com ( Ohh I left his e.mail address - I hope no one spams him  )
He will never be able to post anything here and only serves the purpose of us having an example to look at (You know like those monkeys in the cage).
Sorry Mike - no peanuts here

Spam happens even from good IP addresses so I will take the opportunity to point out that the owner of the IP address does not have to be a spammer.
Addresses are hijacked, hosting companies are duped, or an exploit of some kind can turn your trusted machine into a zombie.

Mostly the spammers come from Pakistan these days. It seems to come in waves. We have had the Russian and Chinese wave now we have the Pakistani wave.
Most of them are already out of here.

I an getting really tired of Chinese spammers these days. We have probably had the most registrations from China and without exception they have all been spamming idiots and therefore a disgrace to their nation. :berserkf
If this is the secret behind the Chinese economic growth then I am all for boycotting Chinese products. Even if I will have to pay more for a Hard disk. :berserk2
