Installed this distro today and i don't like it.
After updating after a clean install the system wouldn't boot anymore, the X server just flickered, it was bloated with to much software and the installation was slow and painfull
thought it might a good idea sharing my experience with the distro so you won't try it

Thanks I will avoid it now - thought I'll give it a try - but I am just to happy with Arch, so it is staying. Even the server works now (with BCMS:-)

Yes it really is a pearl. And you did tell me (kind of)! It is fast (both KDE and Gnome)My USB pen mounts fine. And what surprises me; I made KDE look good. (It sure doesn't in Mandriva). I have a nice minimalistic KDE (chakra repos) and ehem I like it Wireless is only working in KDE so far. I cannot set it in Gnome.
But you were right. I Have tried almost any distro. out there now, and so far this is the best. And it seems very stable too. Of course I still run Mandriva on my main box. To much hassle to convert my /home to Arch I guess.

Is that going to work in Arch? I have never done that before between different distros. Will my programs work? As it is I don't even get thunderbird to work after having copied the.thunderbird directory.

Strange, because I can get Seamonkey to work in whatever distro, same folder for it (.mozilla).

Just install rsync; give it a try before you actually do anything with it. Who knows, you just may like it. Should work whatever distro, but I don't guarantee anything in the linux world. Just try as a test, see what happens.

Well it will not make any difference if I use rsync or ftp to transfer the folders. (I usually use rsync for backups). I am not going to take the whole folder before I have one program working. And as I said - thunderbird is not working - no need to test further, before that works.
And I use ssh like this:

rsync --delete -azvv -e ssh /home/viking viking@viking60-server:/media/disk/Backup

In this case that would be:

rsync --delete -azvv -e ssh /home/viking/.thunderbird  viking@viking60-server:/home/viking/

It's running now - I'll tell you how it went.......
It works. I made a stupid error of copying .thunderbird to a subfolder of .thunderbird on the receiving machine The rsync above works fine.

Hate to run this fine Arch thread OT but I did a search and found the original title. https://sabayon.org/
I gave the 64-bit Sabayon 6 live dvd a try. At least, my display worked. I have not been getting that much with the latest Mandriva and Mageia.

Also, the bluetooth dongle was initialized at boot. In Mandriva 2010.2, it is not detected by BlueDevil, at first. If I unplug it and plug it back, then it's detected. I have not installed or gone through other configuration steps, so I might find problems with that, also. Just wanted to give a shout out for two successful elements.

Sabayon must be the only distro I have not tried. I have tried Gentoo and after 3 hours of compiling Gnome I just gave up. Who has the time for that?

Sabayon is a customized distribution spin based on Gentoo, for those who don't fancy doing the whole compile and configure from absolute scratch. That's also already where the problem lies for me. What's the point of wanting to use a distribution whose strength it is apparently that everything is custom compiled for the machine it is on, when you then use a pre-compiled version of it done by somebody else on their machines. Why not just use any other binary distribution or ArchLinux as a happy medium, which does provide ready made packages but is both faster and just as configurable, with the option of compiling extra packages that you want to add to the small base should you be so inclined, or just go with what's available in the repository

I had Sabayon installed on my PC for almost two years, until they switch to KDE4. Really liked it then, especially for their great (HUGE) offer in games...well, not only. There was a different package manager gui then...(Portato I think?) with every piece of software under the sun.

For a dummy like me though it was kinda easy to broke and hard to fix and configure.
I still try their livedvd from time to time...
