Gnome3 whips Ubuntu Unity and launches a new shell extension site
The site was launched yesterday and is in alpha stage. It brings the much needed extensions for Gnome 3 Shell under one site. The extensions are the key to get the flexibility back to Gnome3 so this is good news for everyone with old habits from Gnome2.
It wil will enrich the overall Gnome experience. As far as Unity goes it has been a fiasco. Ubuntu has lost it's first place on the Distrowatch hit rating to Mint
And Ubuntu was such a negative experience that this berserk simply gave up on testing it due to lack of flexibility. There might be some handheld tablet strategy behind it but that is the case for Gnome3 too.
So Unity is outclassed by a more flexible Gnome3 so far. The extension site does not recognize Gnome3.2 in Iron/Chromium and complains about a not up to date Gnome3 version! In Firefox it seems to work all right.
It recognizes all your extensions and lets you turn them on or off directly in Firefox!
Now you do not have to go to the Gnome-tweak-tool you can install and turn it on directly in your Browser.
Nice!
