I'm making a switch of sorts, and have decided that for readability (in saving screen space) my signature will only be turned on once per thread that I post to (the first time I post to it), and at absolute most once per page or after several pages of a long thread. The option to turn it off is right under the posting window, and I intend to use it.
People only need to see signatures once, and they get it. We don't need them on every single post, IMHO. Our signature is also in our profile info, IIRC. Anything more is just wasted redundancy.
What say you?
Suggestion only.

I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.

Re: Suggestion only.
Well, naturally, it only applies to those who do.
Curious to get feedback on this.

Re: Suggestion only.
Well we cannot anticipate every footer. But footers can be pretty meaningful with HW specifications and OS etc. That is very useful in every post when help is involved.
It has not annoyed me, so I have not spent much thought on it. But that is a function that might be useful.

Re: Suggestion only.
Well, if we need it left on for a post that has to have our hardware/software/whatever, we can either turn it on for a post or so, so whoever can see what it is.
Also, if we leave it on once per thread until there's too many pages to go back and post it again then (for long threads), that should suffice as well.
My own thinking is once the signature has been posted in a thread the first time around (with the exception of long threads), hardware/software/etc. has already been seen. Do we really need to cram it every single post? This is what I'm looking at. Sometimes, it detracts from readability.

Re: Suggestion only.
This is a voluntary function so anyone who feels like it can turn the signature off. Are you advocating no signatures at all?
I have a hard time convincing myself that this is worth the calories.
I just dunno if this will make things better
If there is a landslide I have no problem removing them though.

Re: Suggestion only.
No. I'm just saying we don't need it on every single post.
As, we post it once to a short thread, if we post again to that thread, we don't need it again, unless it's a particularly long thread.
It's only needed once, and the info in it is there.
Need to get lunch and get back to class. Back when I can be.
