Manjaro let me down for the first time today

Postby viking60 » 29 Oct 2013, 22:39

Today there was update time for Manjaro and for the first time it fubared.
After the update I had trouble starting Vbox clients but I got that fixed.
What really is annoying is that all sound is gone :berserk2 If I can't fix that I will be distrohoping.

I suspect that the "upstream" Arch devs have made life difficult on purpose. I have never seen so many updates on Arch in such a short time as the last weeks.

But the good thing about Manjaro is that others take care of that time consuming stuff...If I wanted to fiddle with the system I could use Arch.
In fact I have updated my Arch boxes without a problem.

Arch has been very stable lately and is well behaved - no sound problems there. And it is kind of pointless to have steam without sound..

So maybe Arch pure - the original - is the best solution after all :confused
I did edit /etc/asound.conf so I am going to check if that fubared steam now.....

Edit:
Manjaro apparently has a sound problem but I have not had it before this update. There are Wikis and forums about it but they did not fit exactly. But the thing that works is actually when my sound icon is marked Mute - then I have sound :-D
I don't care as long as I have sound though.
And steam works - I can have sound while I am hunting for those blue and red spots in Team Fortress

Oh lordie, so it was between the keyboard and chair? You were muted?

Näh it is a bug. For once the spot between the chair and the keybord was perfectly ok :-D

Fixored yet?

Yes sort of. I have to open pavucontrol every time I log in and pick outgoing line instead of headphone. And I must set my volome control icon to mute.
Then I have sound.

Can you check your sound config files in /etc for anything unusual, and in /home? The update had to have screwed something there.

Edit, I see it. They claim that it was fixored on the 31st, with updates? Still no joy?

A couple of things, take a look here and here. Anything help? Can't have uber-head-berzerk with screwy sound!
