Still Christmas at Openmandriva

Postby viking60 » 21 Jan 2014, 23:35

The openmandriva guys are having a long holliday this year. The blog is still in Christmas layout:

In most parts of the world it is considered to be over.
But it is probably kept to ensure that they all still will be nice with eachother for somewhat longer...

I have updated my OM Openbox install today and everything still works fine. In fact Openbox really goes well with Openmandriva.

I think it was Mandrake 2006 with a XMas edition, was pretty weird...!

:-D OM are getting good reviews at Distrowatch though and are on 35th place on the chart. They still need to do things right for a while to really be back.
The talent for doing things wrong has been undisputed so far
I think that Mageia already has captured most of the old Mandriva users so OM needs to build a new base. It should be appealing to new Linux users - so it can be done.
I have to admit that I installed Mageia on my mothers computer though.
OM has been criticized for being heavy on resources but Openbox works well with it and makes it lean.

In my opinion they need to ditch the Rosa stuff.

Yes that Rosa launcher is too different from the old menu. Linux people don't like dramatic changes like that.
They can leave it as an Option and use the default menu.

Personally I like the time frame stuff which organizes the documents by ...time. It makes sense to search for stuff when you wrote it, rather than what you might have called the document.

But the Rosa Menu is a bit to much for conservative Linux users.

I was more on resource side. That fluff just eats my resources away.

Some of my systems are what people might say old. But the OSs are getting heavier on each release.
