Someone had pulled a cable there - I have a clear suspect:

It should work again now.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Hmm there is something strange going on there. I will have to look closer into it...
Looks like the Mysql daemon refuses to start when the partition is full. removing the cache fixed it :) all is good now.
