[solved] @Viking, Forum Search isn't working

Postby dedanna1029 » 25 Jul 2010, 20:12

Every single search I run here comes back like this one:

Code: Select all

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: pacman-notifier.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

:(

Derrr... it's the common words we want, aye?

Well I searched for the word common and got a lot of hits ("to" and "the" are meaningless to search for). Try just pacman or notifier and you should be fine. The message is nonsense of course but I think the "-" is giving you the trouble.
I think "-" is understood as minus (must not be found) in some cases.
In this case you could replace it with:
pacman|notifier that will give you the result you are after. You can search for many words separated by a "|" without the quotes (use the advanced search if there are many words).

The result will show the text that matches not just the header of the thread (as it does in the Arch or Mandriva forum).

I get that even with single-word searches (without dashes or anything) too though.

OK - I'll have a look..
Back from looking and here is what I found:
    The search is working
The search is not working like dedanna would like it to :D
Posts that are repeated in more than 5 % of the posts were regarded as "common"
So the word "test" was regarded as common and did not produce a result. (So you are right - that is a "not working" in my book too)

I changed it to 95% and re-indexed the whole enchilada - you should now be able to search for very common words. Even a search for "the" will give you a hit now.
I think search is "working" again now. Please test and confirm.

You can also search with a "*" if you are unsure of the spelling. Rolf may have spelled "pannekaker" wrong so you can search for pann*

And thank you for finding it. If one asks - at least 10 have been wondering about it - so this is clearly an improvement.

Definitely is.

Guess you were just waiting for me to say something, eh? lol

People need to start thinking about chain of command so to speak here. They should be emailing me first, then if I can't get it, I email you. Keeps the flack and busy-ness off of you.

Is that not what a frikking moderator is for?
