Hello jemadux, and welcome to the forum!

I have posted to your thread at the Arch forum, and will quote what I posted there, to here, in order to help others solve the problem:

dedanna1029 wrote:Hello,

I've received a message from jemadux about this issue, and am trying to work with him on it. He's an international user, so it may be hard for him to explain what's going on here.

I asked him for the output to rfkill list:

Code: Select all

[root@gatofido jemadux]# rfkill list
0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: yes
 Hard blocked: no
1: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no
2: hci0: Bluetooth
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no
[root@gatofido jemadux]#

It appears that his chip is "soft blocked", but I am not wifi literate enough to know how to deal with this.

I've also asked him for the output to lspci | grep Network, and checked the list for it, but it appears it may not be supported by what's on that list? I also checked the b43 wiki. I'm wondering if these lists are all inclusive? Also if there is any other information you need to help him resolve this issue?

Code: Select all

04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4353 (rev 01)

Thanks!

I'm thinking there may be a way to install the specific windows driver for this chip, but am not sure?

Thanks, Arch/wifi gurus. :)

Do you have madwifi and madwifi-utils installed? And you are shore you have set the usual lap network switch to "on"?
If so. ndiswrapper is the tool for installing Windows drivers.
In the aur you will find ndiswrapper-all. It builds for all detected kernels.
Use
NDISwrapper requires at least the ".inf" and the ".sys" files invariably supplied as parts of the Windows driver. For example, if the driver is called "mydriver", with the files mydriver.inf and mydriver.sys and vendorid:productid 0000:0000, then NDISwrapper installs the driver to /etc/ndiswrapper/mydriver/. This directory contains three files:
0000:0000.conf, which contains information extracted from the inf file
mydriver.inf (the original inf file)
mydriver.sys (the driver file)

So what is your situation exactly? Do you have a fully functional Arch installation without the wifi?

He let me know in I.M. that it started working. How, he couldn't remember, but he remembered installing Deluge, and it was functional.

He's installing virtualbox - and some other distros. He may be sleeping now, as it's a lot later in Greece than here.

Oh yes he is way past midnight in Greece. I love the widespread member group here.
