What file system are you using and why? I have heard that Ext4 is faster than Ext3 so everybody is using Ext4 now right? Or is it just me?
I have heard that Reiser is in Jail so there is no more development on that system. http://www.linuxtoday.com/news_story.ph ... RV-SW-0000

In fact, there is development on reiserfs; it's just that it's going a lot more slowly. Vladimir Demidov (*I think*) took it over. I don't really care though even if not. reiserfs is still the fastest and most stable on each one of my hard drives (and right now their brands vary; Maxtor, WD, IBM, etc.). I'll probably still be running it when I'm beyond retirement age. If there is one thing that plain hacks me off about Fedora, it's that they don't support reiserfs, or present it as an option in Anaconda. I think they can bite me for that one.

Re: File systems Ext3 Ext4 reiser etc.
I use it but it's known to have a dataloss bug when the computer crashes, this however has something to do with poor programming rather than the filesystem itself. They say it lies in something called delayed allocation.
So the filesystem should be safe unless you run a program which utilizes the delayed alloc feature and the computer crashes

Yeah see! (do we have our first Fedora sux here?) Anyway - do you use it because it is even faster than Ext4? I am totally green on this but I want to use the best.

Re: File systems Ext3 Ext4 reiser etc.
IMHO, there is nothing that comes close, but others will say otherwise, I'm sure.
I run extx on this thing, and it's slower than a turtle on marijuana. :p
BTRFS (whatever it is) is still too experimental.
If you put jfs on this thing it's super slow.
Nothing compares to reiserfs, for speed or reliability, and what he said up there ^^, I never heard of or ran into, not once.
I have never had a reiserfs system crash on me, and have it due to being reiserfs. I mean never.

String answer = "Yes it's faster and therefor i use it, it also doesn't fragment that easily(which is already no big problem in linux but still i like to keep it clean)";

Also, with reiserfs, if your computer crashes (programs crash, whatever), and you have to do a cold (or warm re-) boot, it plays back transactions on boot and fixes them. Automatically.

oh and viking60 i think i get why you said ext4.
I answered your question on ext4 so that's what i use contra ext3
communication error 442
That makes a little more sense

I don't care if it's supported or not. I use it lol. Until they come up with something better, I'm not budging from it (and you know how stubborn I can be...)
