I'd like for everyone to be able to see the answer.
Boss, regular users will know not to spam this forum. However, I still have a lingering question as to whether it's okay to post about non-profit events we are involved in; fundraisers, rallies, and the like. I'm wondering because I have both a national one that my daughter's involved in, and a local one that I'm involved in for Mental Health Awareness month that is coming up in May (I'm doing a heckuva lot of work for this; pretty much a regular job for now without getting paid for it).
I don't remember the answer, and would like to know concretely one way or another. If it's okay, I'd like to post about these events in detail.
Thanks.
Edit: I wonder if there would be any legalities also, against having a section to sell computer items (or even other items; this would be for-profit, for individuals only, members of the forum, and on a small scale). I've seen forums in the past, where they had a section called "Auctions", or something similar. I may be wrong, but I'm thinking something like this would do a lot to promote the forum in general.

I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.

Re: General question about this forum
For that matter, would it be possible to have a section for each in the forum, provided there are no legalities against either?

Re: General question about this forum
I am a member of a forum that has a Sell and Trade section.
The only legal thing is, the Forum is not part of the deal. The only legal part is between the Seller and the Buyer. What the forum provide is the way to advertise the item. How reliable is the Seller, is a risk the Buyer has to take. Of course, the forum does not collect from the Sale either.
You could do Craiglist or EBay if you wish and add a link to it. See it all the time on Car and Computer Forums.

Personally I think it is OK to advertise anything you like on a forum - goods for sale, events, whatever as long as that is not the reason you signed up for the forum.
If you are already a member and know of something (whether through personal involvement or not) that would be of possible interest or benefit to other members then why not mention it? Just make sure that isn't all you do.

Past experience demonstrates best method to tighten bolts is to use appropriate size spanners.
Re: General question about this forum
Well my first reaction was that it would be perfectly OK. But I think the point made here about who is actually standing behind it, is valid. I think the hardware bit is within the area and would be generally interesting for all. And charities and fundraisers may vary. I am sure raising funds for KKK or Kim Jung Il will provoke someone.
Mental health is a worthy and important cause - I think we can find a deserving place for it - If the money flow can be documented until it has arrived at the worthy cause. Most organisations will be able to document this,
I am against making absolute rules that can exclude good things. In general 30 % of us will experience mental health problems and it is a stigma and a shame thing.
Therfore posiive atention is clearly in its place.
Hardware is on topic - but also no responcibillity for the forum and its members! If the forum starts to look like a Turkish basar we will stop it.
I think it could be worth a try.
A charity and hardware member trade section would get us started right?
That is if other members have no objections
