The Wall 2011 @ Telenor arena

Postby b1o » 21 May 2011, 01:24

A little late but hey, I've been busy with school and with finishing my bachelors degree, not done yet but i found some spare time.

So anyways to The Wall. The concert was amazing I'm quite certain that i will never again in my life see something that awesome (Just to clarify this is the real meaning of the word awesome, not the kind like a Hot Dog is awesome). The concert started with a bang with of course the song: In the flesh:

(might want to turn your volume down, quite bad sound quality)

This was filmed by a buddy of mine who sat on the row behind me, now by this point i was so amazed that the rest of the show was by me watched in a state of trance (You might say i was comfortably numb :) ). That start gripped the audience by the balls and shook them around till they could move no more :D

The message of the show had changed into how poorly people treat each other, and to how much power the corporate and the governments has over the individuals.(Apple got hammered in the show with words like iKill, iPay, iPaint(with a picture of Hitler beside it))

The show can't really be described, you just had to be there. What i can say is that it made a little tear grow in the corner of my eyes.

To those who haven't seen it and aren't going to: You damn fools
To those who are going to see it: enjoy yourselves
To those who saw it in the O2 arena in london: OMFG i envy you (David Gilmour played there)

oh, And a flying pig flew right over my head:

Yeah, I saw O'Bomber in Air Force One the other day, too. *sniggers

(You people over there abroad in Europe make me sickeningly jealous. Why the hell do you get all the good gigs, and we don't get jack? I can't resist wise-cracking when I'm this jealous. Who do I need to call? I DEMAND a good gig here in the states NOW.)

After Roger left Pink Floyd (considering it a spent force!) I never cared much for his work. Never quite liked it, too much talking and less singing. His music became just a support for words, a soundtrack of sorts.
This (Wall) tour however is something that I like to see very much. It may be the last chance to see a Pink Floyd work in a big concert. (I'm not counting tribute bands like Australian Pink Floyd although they are very good.)
There is still time though for anyone interested (until July) :)

I'm curious to see what impact will have on me; after seeing one of their last shows in 1994 I still think that nothing can surpass that.
Notice how the giant circular screen starts tilting towards Gilmour and what's happening on the stage after the above sphere starts to open.

Or this final madness (especially after minute 6.00.

One thing stands clear after comparing the two shows: Roger's show is basically heavily based on huge projections and Pink Floyd's on elaborated and exquisite light/lasers arrangements.
They both use gimmicks (crashing planes on stage and inflatable pigs) but Roger's show is geared more towards raw force.

yeah dubigrasu, I wish i were there in 1994, but alas i was only 5 years of age, so it would be hard to make me stay still :P
But no if you were there it won't surpass it, but it will do a damn good job trying to do so.
I have the pulse DVD and it's brilliant, especially the solo in comfortably numb, best solo of all time.

The Wall is a damn good album though, and rogers performance was excellent, the guitarist that replace Gilmour do a damn good job although it's nowhere near the genius of Dave

Yes I agree dubi nothing will probably be better than the original Pink Floyd. I was old enough to go but I was a building myself up and setting the pieces together after a sky diving accident.

OK, it's done!
Everything is settled, plane/hotel/show tickets.
On 11 of June I'm in Hamburg at the O2 Arena watching Roger Waters's The Wall :B with my girlfriend.

I couldn't refuse this last chance :-D

A question for b1o:
Was it allowed with photo cameras at the show, or do I have to smuggle it in?
I don't plan to record the show (I'm planing to enjoy it :) ), but I'd like to take a picture or two...
