If I read carefully between the lines here then I think I can detect that you do not like Raphael :confused and that you do like Mandriva.
Personally I would like to see a good Mandriva because it is good for Linux and FOSS.

So I might not use it - but I have helped in removing a few bugs (that still are in ROSA - like the nb bugs) which will make OM more usable in Valhalla.
And I partially buy the European origin too - since all software coming from the US seems to be abused these days.

:s because a president, focusing only on the wind is not good for Mandr.. for the community ..
And, an President, who's easy deleting things in the wiki, it's already not good for the community and many things also ..

Mandrake ... Mandrake ma' Frend :) *s* WITH !! The Original Installer !

Yes, but are you kidding? Mandriva were the original drama whores, and at times it affected the distro badly. Forgive me for being so blatant, but sometimes the truth hurts. I know you helped with it and OpenMandriva - we all made our contributions to Mandriva, but any takeoff from Mandriva now is the same and worse about it. "the Association should be there for the Distribution..." Truer words were never spoken, and this has been my problem with both Mandriva SA and OpenMandriva all along - they're not. They've always been more concerned with their "rise to fame," defaming each other, turning their backs on those who help the most, wasting time and money that users gave them (Powerpack money that MDV SA used for a huge FOSS event that they backed out on anyone, and couldn't get the money back from?), and extremely destructive power plays. It's never been about the distros. 100% agreed on your last statement, Blacky.

After all that with both distros, how can anyone really care about anything more that comes out of it? How can anyone be expected to care, really? We're all too numb from it.

If a good distro comes out of it - I don't care.
The french have a long and distinguished tradition of revolutions and screwing up  And they always seem to prefer to scrath their heads with their toes...
So they have to prove that they can keep a distro out there - because this one is going to get out there this time.

The usual procedure is:
    The distro gets out
    The drama starts
    Everybody fights
    The distro dies
And then they want everybody to contribute to get some kind of mandriva out there again..
    ...go to first entry

Thats the tradition

But this is going to be a userfriendly good distro as it looks now,

Just one slight problem. In the case of OpenMandriva, step #2 came way, way sooner than #1, which I think may be running off a lot of users before they start.

Yep, they do need to prove the distro out step. Especially now.

You know I'm going to play devil's advocate on this - and it's for a reason. They better get up off it and prove me wrong.

No that was step 5

Sure; freedom of speech is a nice thing. And they do have a lot to prove.
As you know I have been heavily critisizeing their years of "organazing" stuff that had other purpose than getting the distro out there.
But i am pragmatic about it - It is not a principle to hammer them (I never thought they would manage to bring a distro out there).
And a good distro always brings me in a forgiving mood....and there are guys there that are swiftly responding to reported bugs.

That is very good - I need to praise the positive things too. And those draktools make Mandriva a serious contender in the emerging newbie market.
The beta works well and OM with Openbox works like a charm here.

I do miss some programs like Glances and gmrun but what is there works pretty well now.

I would even suggest that I'm the president next time,
then, I would first distribute ass kicks,
but then thoughtful leading the Distribution and not
then wiggle like a duck they at end on spit ends ..

it is need a right hand to leading an whole distribution and get an correct coordinating ..

it's really pity to be goes like it goes at moment.. i use therefor to hold me selves away from
OM an other Distribution, this is the reason, why i use at moment an other Distro, and not OM,
because if i use OM, then i be to near on my loved Distro .. and therewith I deny this and hold
me selves away from it..

and at last i am waiting and have a look how it all develops in near time ..
letz' have a look in the next times.. Year ? Years ?

Hmm this is strange:
I cannot run

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze
on this beta it cannot find the command...
Naturally that means that I cannot run

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze blame
either
I don't think that is a feature :naughty:
Bugzilla here we come:
:A
The bug
Edit:
Argh  I remember I asked Per Øyvind the same thing with Moondrake - Mandriva needs systemd-tools to make that work.
It is the only distro I have where I have to install extra tools - on my other distros it comes with the distro.
