Meego 1.2 is out

Postby viking60 » 22 May 2011, 21:10

The open source Meego 1.2 is released. This is an OS for smartphones.
Until February, the Linux-based Meego OS was Nokia's high-end strategic platform for future smartphones and tablet devices, superseding Symbian, which was pushed down for higher-volume, lower-margin products. New CEO Stephen Elop ripped up the plans in February and sidelined Meego. Microsoft being the new partner could be an explanation for that. Nokia tried to offer it to HTC and other competitors but no one was interested because they feared that Nokia would have to much control over the system.
So this release is what it is:
Today we are announcing the project release of MeeGo 1.2. This release provides a solid baseline for device vendors and developers to start creating software for various device categories on Intel Atom* and ARMv7 architectures.

It remains to be seen if someone actually is going to use it.

Dammit! I SO wish there were a "Like" button here!
I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.
