Yandex - bigger than Bing

Postby viking60 » 11 Feb 2013, 20:59

I just read that the search engine Yandex has a world market share of 2,8 % and Bing has 2,5 %. Baidu is the second biggest search engine with 8,2 % but that is still more of a local Chinese thing. And Yahoo has 4.9 %.

So I checked out Yandex.com.and it is quite good. I can understand that it has a market share of over 60% in Russia and keeps Google behind.

And it even is a slightly better than duckduckgo.com too, because the image search is better.

I have not checked if yandex has privacy issues - but as a search engine it holds water.

I think I'll try some other search engines. Google was good, once. Now, all the paid-for ads and suggestions are just making it irritating. Is Yandex.com related to yandex.ru, where our Russian Linux benefactors live? I see Yandex looks a lot like Google. It has similar filters such as I like to use when looking for images to be used in an endearingly clever fashion. Very responsive, ATM. I don't see an addon for Firefox/Seamonkey to make it my default search engine but I will give it a whirl. :berserk2

Here are the privacy rules:

And they pretty much suck :wall:

Oh well nothing seems to beat duckduckgo in that area.

Looks like they also have trading issues (Jan. 7, 2013).

Yes Antitrust pretty much spells corruption - sadly a long and distinguished Russian tradition....
