Nautilus not showing Samba shares [isabug]

Postby dedanna1029 » 25 Mar 2013, 10:54

Question #2 for today (a Nautilus limitation):

In Dolphin, there is a folder in Network-->Samba shares, containing the shares (servers) one is connected to. I have three, one being MGAGROUP.

MGAGROUP contains a Samba share that does not show up in MCC, but shows up in this folder, and I can transfer files quite well from.

Here's the rub: I do not have a general "Samba shares" folder in Nautilus. It shows each share individually in "Browse network", and when I click on each one, it wants to connect via ssh, not Samba.

Um... how am I going to do this from Nautilus, without having it seen in MCC? Is there a Nautilus extension or something? I quite don't like dolphin...

When I go to File-->Connect to server in Nautilus, and I put in the information for the server, get to the dropdown box for type of server, Samba isn't even an option there. So, I am guessing therefore that Nautilus doesn't support Samba shares! OK,nevermind,ThxBye.

Get a command line with CTRL+L and write

Code: Select all

smb://viking60-server/

replacing my server with yours. It may well be that it does not show in the Network window that Nautilus has under the name of "Windows networks"

So you can connect with it directly.

If everything is set up correctly and the computer God is in a good mood the Samba shares will actually show up under networks in Nautilus.

But Samba can be "moody" (the problem can also be between the keyboard and the chair - in my case)
SSH is way better and more secure
Just to check your config you can run

Code: Select all

testparm
on the server
or

Code: Select all

testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

I don't even have "Windows networks" in there in Nautilus. Also, it does appear that it doesn't support Samba shares, as I said above (at least this version doesn't; 3.4.something). When I typed in network:/// in the location field, this is what came up:

Can't wait for Mageia 3, to see if it's a high enough version to have these things.

Dolphin it is then. That looks discouraging.

Yeah. Think I'll add it to this bug. Lucky them that they even get a crash.
