I use pclinuxos kde (an older version)on my server and it has a samba server function. I don't know if it works with win 7 yet because we don't use win 7
but it might be something to check out and possibly tweek to your needs

No don't think so. I need 64 bit - PClos does not have that. The problem is on the Win7 side I think.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

could be! more and more win 7 foibles are appearing every day
centos makes a 64 bit version.
ive got it on cd but haven't tried it yet.
