Re: Mageia
It's not working, with /dev/sdc1 mounted or umounted, either way.
There's nothing on the flash stick when done.

Re: Mageia
Try it with /dev/sdc without the 1 (one)

Re: Mageia
Yeah, I had tried it that way at first, and it didn't work, so tried /dev/sdc1. That didn't work. Formatted the flash stick to a linux file system (it was originally on NTFS) a couple times in the process - it had gotten corrupted files from cancelling dd a couple of times. Tried /dev/sdc again, and that worked. Thanks.

Re: Mageia
Was finally able to download the Mageia dvd, and am going to use the dd method for it to install.
The problem is going to come in with the reiserfs /home partition... that bug scares me to death.

Re: Mageia
Got it installed. KDE keeps locking up beyond being able to do anything but pull the plug on the netbook. Pity. That's what it was installed for, was to be able to run the netbook stuff in KDE.
Now, I keep having to revert to Gnome3.4, which does work, except it's too huge for the netbook screen. and sucks.

Re: Mageia
I have dropped Gnome because I agree with LinusTorvalds. The last Gnome update broke all my extensions, but they are not official so the Gnome guys do not care... . OpenBox works just fine and is faster too. And KDE is also way better.

Re: Mageia
KDE isn't better here. It won't even run. ^^

Re: Mageia
Grrrrrrr... Now dealing with this baby because I still can't get into KDE, even after resetting the ~/.kde4 folder - it freezes on load.
I'm thinking I need to wait until I'm overseas next Monday to deal with this netbook any further. I have some old Mandriva disks (and so do friends there) that have Gnome 2.32 on them... 2010 & earlier. I think that's the way to go. Get that on here, then put Gnome everything in skip.list. It's the only way I'm going to be able to deal. Update KDE as far as it will go, then stop, and keep the thing right there. The end. Mageia's nice, but still in its infancy, and too much to deal with on it for now. Things that won't install too, due to dep hell, things that won't uninstall. Way, way too much for during finals week.

Re: Mageia
Did you delete the ~/.kde4 directory? If not try that.

Re: Mageia
Yep. Renamed it twice, and moved it. However, when I go into a new user on the computer, KDE works, but very very slowly, so there's still something somewhere in my /home that's doing this (I'm assuming).
Edit: Finally got chance (connection) to do updates. There are a lot for KDE to 4.8.5, and for Qt4. Let's just hope there's time before next class starts for them to finish, and if they can finish, let's hope they fix this. There's some 700 MBs of updates; I'm not on the fastest of connections. The school wireless sucks.
