Help section

Postby dedanna1029 » 24 Sep 2013, 20:02

Having some misgivings about the Help section here these days. Granted, we have some great topics in it, but lately... I think you know where I'm coming from.

Just an observation.

Edit: As an addendum, other than really off-shoot questions, I'm wondering if help could be given in the corresponding distro's or OS's section?

Well that would make a lot of sections.
What everybody could do is help checking out if they are spammers here If they are listed they can be banned and removed right away - no need to wait for the actual spam to happen.

And I will do some cleanup. After that it should be ok.

Does the help section look better now?
Would this be solved?

Interesting implementation. So is it supposed to lock all threads that are solved, or simply mark them solved? You mentioned something in the other thread about the mod locking them? There's some solved in Help that aren't locked, is why I ask. I guess I'm just a wee bit confused on that.

Thank you for this!

The marking will not lock the threads - only mark them as solved, and you can mark them as un-solved again if something turns up.

The only section where the topic will be locked is in the Board info section (here). But the topic starter will be able to mark topics as unsolved there too and thus unlock them again.

So if you mark this as solved it will be locked - but you (the topic starter) can unlock it at any time..

In the help section the topics will only be marked and not closed

OK, thanks. :)

However, if possible, I myself wouldn't mind seeing the spam topics just go away in Help, or to another section where they could be made examples of. That's what got me going on this.

And it has been cleaned up - so there should be no need to keep going?

Just a couple example ones?

Or are they left for a reason?

Yes they contain valuable information that can be of use to others,
Mainly because of good quality answers. The topic starters will not be able to post anymore - but the information stays.
