Hmmm... Very nice writeup! Sadly (I guess it is recordmydesktop?), the resolution and my eyes conspire to make any error other than choice of terminal theme not apparent to me

Still, the mysql and php stuff is interesting. I haven't got past setting the password for making a database when I look into setting up something like mythtv, guess I will have to look at docs, someday! Image

Yeah, I'm not able to distinguish either. Thought I'd wait and see if anyone else had the same issue with it. My eye sight is very bad over the last couple of years.

Thanks, Rolf.

Am about to install Fedora 13; I have Arch almost to where I want it. Just a few little niggles to get out of the way, things that can be taken care of after the F13 installation.

Oh! Meant to mention to you Rolf that Arch would be right up your alley, you're so good with system files and cli. You should give it a try sometime. I'm not quite as familiar with system files as you, so Arch installations take me longer than the average bear. This time it went a lot faster than the other times, because I have the installation almost memorized. The Arch Wiki installation instructions are really very good. I printed them out to make things easier, but I betcha you wouldn't even need to, once you've read them a time or two. I think you'd also have a blast setting it up the way you want it. That's the part that takes the most time for me.

Thanks for the tip about Arch. Right now, a new Mandriva release is going through release candidates. I don't have much extra time but I'll spend that little bit on monitoring the Mandriva development, maybe look at Arch in the future.

Okay, so like f* you Fedora!

They've removed mp3 support altogether. Install all the codecs you want, and it won't do you a bit of good. Not in XMMS, Amarok, or anything else.

No one removes my right to listen to music. It's going. Very soon. Maybe tonight.

So you found something wrong with Fedora :D That's a first
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Yep. This is the first time I've come across that in it.

The problem is, every single distro crashes on me when importing my collection into Amarok2. Amarok1 didn't do it, but 2 does, so I don't know what to do, other than XMMS. It sounds pretty good in Arch, btw.

I tried it btw with a mysql db, but I think I did something wrong in it. I don't understand mysql at all, so. *shrug*
I did okay with postgresql; there are out and out step-by-step instructions for it, but amarok2 doesn't support postgresql. I'm so pissed that it doesn't.

Just to catch everyone up, I'm glad I didn't take Fedora 13 off. I'm really enjoying it. Just a couple of things here 'n there that I need to get squared away. The major one being that in Firefox, I got no right-click. At all. However, I've come to realize that I do everywhere else. A Firefox thing? Or Fedora's implementation of it? Who knows. :p

The other i'll discuss in time.

And I have fixed my freeze in Arch, so I am now redeclaring my unconditional love for it. It is faster than Fedora it is more flexible and I JUST LOVE IT. Fedora 13 is just good and on the waiting list for the honorable place on one of my boxes +1
