Windows 8 is finally bigger than XP

Postby viking60 » 02 Dec 2014, 14:14

Windows 8 is finally (and barely) bigger than the 13 year old Windows XP.
The decisive step to further enhance Microsoft's control over the computer with secure certified booting has given WIndows 8 a negative quality.

Windows 8 reduces the functionality of the hardware for the common Joe by excluding Linux, but also Windows 7 and other prior Windows versions.

This does not go down well, and it is as much the end of support of XP that has driven the Windows 8 sales, as the quality of Windows 8.

    1. Windows 7: 47,49 percent
    2. Windows XP: 29,23 percent
    3. Windows 8: 6,63 percent
    4. Windows 8.1: 3,95 percent
    5. Windows Vista: 3,30 percent

Those numbers don't make sense to me. If the devices being evaluated are "Desktop, Tablet, and Console" devices then there is no way Windows 7 is at 47% (at least not by my definition of "Desktop, Tablet, and Console").

Then I was thinking... does this mean that "6.63+3.95>=29.23"?

Happily... On a related note: I believe I may have found a way for my dad to stay at XP a little longer! +1

I use XP for few applications and for work when I am on Citrix (cannot get it to work with Mageia 4), other than that MS is dead to me. However, you get shove it down your throat 8 when you buy a new system. Does that count even that you are not getting a choice?

Systems are still available without an OS, some at reduced-price.

MS is dead to me as well, has been for years, however I've had chance to check 8 out. Worst. OS. ever. I had to spend hours helping a friend of my mom's with it, getting it as close back to XP as I could for her. Took hours doing what a program now can do in a few minutes, just to set up the desktop, much less to get it as secured as possible.

Never for this kid. I buy with no OS or custom-build as I have in the past, or not at all.
