Unbelievable: XP is growing

Postby viking60 » 04 Feb 2015, 00:12

Since Nov 2014 the dead XP has become a zombie and is growing from 13,57 % to 18,93% in January of 2015!

In short XP is growing again.

This might mean that old software needs XP and people will keep that as long as they can. It might also mean that the Windows alternatives Microsoft has produced are not to the customers liking.

Windows 10 will be free for everyone with Windows 7 or newer so the XP people need to pay for Windows 10 too. That might further motivate them to hang on to Windows XP.
It lives and thrives well in my VB too - and I have no plans of upgrading it.

Nevertheless this is surprising.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

If I run a business software that still perfoming like it should and there is no subtitude on Win 7 and if so, I have to pay. There is no reason for me to move on to Win 7, 8, "9", 10, or etc... Is a matter of investing and I will squeeze every penny I can get from it.

So I see why staying. I am one of them, I use XP to use Citrix (Mageia does not work with Citrix) so is fine with me to keep it. As long I can Citrix to work, the OS is irrelevant.

Will love to use Win 2000; that was the best of the best MS ever came up with.

It was the best of the best, still is in some circles. I miss it - thinking about running a vbox with it for a few reasons.

My mom is still on XP on her desktop computer. I'm in it now. She has a legitimate copy (and the number is there to get updates), so gets updates. She was getting updates just yesterday. She had to get the PC shop to get it to where it would accept newer software, but it installs just fine now.

She runs Win7 on her laptop, but that's just because it came with it. She had to get a new laptop not long ago.

Yes, I've still not been able to get her to go Linux. It sucks, as her now-very-old desktop PC could use it; even XP is running very slowly on it.
