I hate to gloat, but I tried to tell them too many times that they were doink it wronk. I was banned for it instead. One of their biggest supporters, certainly one of the most vocal about it, and they didn't listen. I can see now why. With word of frauds, firings, etc., they're not going to want to let those kinds of cats out of the bag. Nope, they're gonna cover it up.

Call me cold-hearted. Call me whatever you want. I was right. There's no disputing it. I was also right about their forum moderator.

I knew January this year they wouldn't see 2011.

Am I sad about it?

Nope. No way. Not now. They made me too bitter. I think the numb-nuts got what they deserved.

They're done, rolf, Linagora isn't even going to do their thing with them. The higher-ups there have been discussing how to liquidate assets, Two of their companies have already been liquidated, employees fired from there, etc. already.

Mandriva is alive!

Mandriva restructures to establish European leadership

Paris, 7th July 2010 - Mandriva is one of the cornerstones of Open Source, a technological pioneer offering the sole independent Linux distribution on the European market. Nevertheless the company has been faced with a mounting financial challenge for several years due in part to its size and lack of a clear publishing strategy.

Mandriva also plays a strategic role in the Paris Saclay innovative ecosystem centred on the Pole System@tic Paris Region and Cap Digital. The company is involved in a dozen R&D projects in partnership with some 60 research and industrial laboratories working on themes such as the semantic desktop, Linux Real Time distribution, shared infrastructures or cloud computing.

This explains why a group of entrepreneurs, associated with the founding investors, has drawn up an ambitious industrial plan with the aim of saving from bankrupty and relaunching the company. Mandriva finds itself at the heart of a European assembly of Open Source software players which will occur in the coming monthes. IF Research parent company of the european software editor Wallix will lead this operation. Mandriva is thus at the heart of a business combination that will take place in Europe next month among several players involved in free software. In France, IF Research, parent company of the software editor Wallix will accompany Mandriva to conduct these operations...

Yeah, saw about them getting new investors after the above stuff had come down. However, until they learn how to run a business like a real business, and get some good marketing going, I don't expect them to last a long time in whatever direction they go in.

Rumor has it that packagers have moved over to Google. But as far as Mandriva goes - this is business as usual.

Pretty much, yep. An inveritable (and, quite consistent) roller-coaster (or is that yo-yo? Who knows. :P ).

Seems like the Russians find Mandriva interesting:

Yeah, I saw some other mention of this by sam73 in the arstechnica review reported at mandriva forum, too.
sam73 wrote:I'll tell you, who saved Mandriva - Russian government and newly formed Russian hi-tech invest funds. Now, how do I know about it? Well there was a huge coverage of the fact, that future national OS will be based on Mandriva. That's why the project is now inflated with money. It is thought, that knowledge will follow.

I saw that on Twitter, but kinda blew it off. I'm still waiting to see how well that money's handled.

I think this looks good for Mandriva. They have a lot of goodwill because they are European. And because it is a good distro. They will make it this time too I think.
The challenge is not to limp forward but to build up Mandriva to a major force. No business will go for a system that is gone tomorrow. So there has to be built up confidence that they are here to stay.
On the pro side, Mandriva has been around for a long while, and shown stamina. On the contra side, Mandriva has not made convincing profits in years.
Once the Market is convinced, Mandriva revenues will grow.
