Reseting Gnome to its original state.

How often have you said "something is wrong" and the conclusion is "I will reinstall everything".

Wait a minute.....
Ther IS something you can try first.
It is recommended that you run CTRL-ALT+F1 and do this in text mode:
root
password

Code: Select all

mv -f .gnome2 .gnome2.backup

And:

Code: Select all

mv -f .gkonf .gkonf.backup

You have now removed Gnomes access to those libraries by moving them over to a new name (you do not have to delete them first -renaming them is sufficient).

You now have a fresh Gnome installation, and should you regret it, you have the backup i the .gnome2.backup and .gkonf.backup files.



Do a CTRL+ALT+F7 and check the result.

Worth a try before reinstalling - don't you think'?

Well yes that is the same way but as I (so brilliantly ) stated, there is no need to remove the folders. Moving them to a new name is sufficient and saves you time.

Right. Sorry, should've qualified earlier. I do rename them rather than rm.
