OpenOffice/MS Office Is this true?

Postby viking60 » 15 Oct 2010, 23:16

Microsoft has something to say about open source here:

That is tough. Is it true?
What also puzzles me a bit is that Microsoft were such great believers in open source only some months ago. What happened? And if such a huge amount of technicians spent all that time supporting Open Office, they still must spend that time fighting viruses in MS. Of course if they put Open Office on Windows then they probably would have a short term learning curve because the employees are used to MS Office products.
Also the cost for Anti Virus software must come into the equation.

sounds like they are blowing smoke
of course we know they are getting paid to say it too
we all know that linux is different
but they are expecting it to be exactly like ms crap.
I use open office myself because I don't have to repeatedly re-register my software

Yes MS is clear on fighting Linux. That is their job according to their CEO.

Well the problem for businesses using open source software often is user adaptation, this is because the users of the software(the employees) Use microsoft products at home. This was their main argument in the above video. Well yeah that's one downside of opensource software, but if you want software you can freely modify for your own needs, open source software is the way to go.
I do think there is something in what they say in the video, but it seems they have been payed by microsoft to say it.

Paid or blackmailed. Of course most people have Microsoft at home. They day that is not the case - Microsoft will have little to blackmail with.
That is why they prefer pirated MS-software before Linux. The "market share" of Pirated MS products is bigger than Open Office and Linux.
MS lets them continue for a few years before they take their gloves of. When used to it, it is harder to switch - don't they know it.
