 By the looks of it no helmet with -or without horns- can save your head :wall:
But you can choose between the horns and Eduard Khils hat. :-D
It cannot alter the fact that you are a dangerous Berserk now :-x

Congrats on the new headgear, dubigrasu! Maidens all across the North are a-tingle.

In other news, I have installed djl-1.2.20-1mdv2010.0, then, on Fearless Leader's recommendation, Warzone 2100, from that gui. When I right-click on Warzone 2100 in the games panel, choose to Play, it tells me:
Error with warzone2100.
Here is the error string:

/home/rolf/.djl/jeux/warzone2100/warzone2100/bin/warzone2100: error while loading shared libraries: libpopt.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

djl will try to download this library: libpopt.so.0

For more information, you can go to the menu 'Information/Show games's output'

When I click on the Close button of that window, I get:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "djl_main.py", line 766, in timerEvent
msg_erreur()
File "/usr/share/games/djl/installe.py", line 945, in __init__
gdep.RecupLib(nom_lib.replace(':', ''))
File "/usr/share/games/djl/gdep.py", line 48, in __init__
self.recup()
File "/usr/share/games/djl/gdep.py", line 72, in recup
interface.info_box(i18n.traduc("La librairie n'a pas ete trouvee") + ': ' + self.nom_lib + '\n' + i18n.traduc("Merci de rapporter le probleme au developpeur."))
NameError: global name 'i18n' is not defined

Please report it to the developer.

I can OK that crash report but the original "libpopt.so.0 missing" error window remains. If I close that, the traceback window re-appears and there is no way out of this loop. It will stay like this all day, until I kill the pid. I have removed and re-installed Warzone 2100 from the gui. It is a big download and I have left it alone for a long time. There is no indication of success except that, when I open up djl on next boot, Warzone 2100 is in the games pane. Closing, I looked at the log just after starting djl and see the following, in case it's relevant. Thanks!

I never got DJL to function properly. :confused What happens if you remove it and just install Warzone via the repos?
And dubigrasu that is one impressive helmet :s :-D

I will try the standalone Warzone.

Code: Select all

In other news, the boy seems overwhelmed by the complexity, for instance, of the Xonotic Preview, offered by MIB

Does something come to mind along the lines of the rocket shooting game, not far advance from pong? They've got no internet, so some sort of games sampler on dvd might be helpful, in case there are any ideas? Thanks.

Have you tried to install the missing library libpopt0 from the package manager?

You should try then something like live.linuX-gamer
live.linuX-gamers.net is a Linux live distribution: "boot 'n play". The idea is for you to be able to carry a decent amount of high-quality Linux games with you where ever you go for purposes of demonstration, gaming or parties. Your computer will remain completely unchanged as everything will run live.

Lots of games: http://live.linux-gamers.net/?s=games
Download from here: http://live.linux-gamers.net/?s=download

Also there are many "X-Distro LiveCD gaming editions" around. There is one (or two) made by MIB, an Ubuntu gaming edition...Fedora...etc.
There is also an insane 7.8GB Super Gamer DVD http://supergamer.org/.

Pick one..or all of them :)

Now, I have. +1

However, it finds another library missing, libesd.so.0, which I think urpmi found, then libartsc.so.0, which is nowhere to be found and, finally, djl still missed the installed /usr/lib/libesd.so.0. Some record of this attempt:

Error with warzone2100.
Here is the error string:

/home/rolf/.djl/jeux/warzone2100/warzone2100/bin/warzone2100: error while loading shared libraries: libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You can try to copy (or link) the libraries is complaining about, directly in Warzone's lib folder.

Code: Select all

/home/rolf/.djl/jeux/warzone2100/warzone2100/libs

Must admit though that I wasn't completely aware about one thing regarding Djl.
It seems that is kinda...unmaintained? Although I see some new games added to repositories, the app itself hasn't been update in a while.
I visited its page and is a bit deserted place.
Is also true that I had (like Wiking) numerous problems with it. Some games are starting some are not, and lot of things had to be fixed manually lately.
As an idea is great, but it doesn't quite working properly anymore.

So did you found libartsc.so.0 http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/ ... 6.rpm.html eventually ?

That lglive dvd looked really nice on my desktop but I ran into a glitch where the monitor reported out of range. It's a very slick disk and the lad is quite jazzed about it. He is using it quite a bit. Both of us have nvidia cards and he has to restart the x-server for the monitor quirk, some other seemingly hanging game issues, had to pull the plug, once. Nonetheless, that one's a winner. :s

Ah, I get this a lot (monitor out of range). In fact it is happening every time I use a livecd with proprietary Nvidia enabled.
I always get over 100 Hz refresh rate when my monitor is able only to do 85. I can only boot in level 3 and do some xorg adjustments before startx.
