What would a group need to implement an "open source" rebellion? In Iran recently illegal protests were aided by such things as cell phones, Twitter, etc. However, such mechanisms can be fairly easily thwarted. If a group wanted to overthrow a repressive government, it would need to construct an unbreakable communication apparatus for planning and implementation. I would think that such an apparatus could be designed and run "open source" so even if the government in question attempted to interrupt it, they couldn't. How would you go about constructing such an apparatus?

Re: open source
This is better in "Help" or in "Politics & Religion", but I do know of a few ways. It needs to happen here in the states bad. I will post later when I have more time, and can find these ways.
I'm also hoping you're a legitimate member here. This does need to be discussed.

I'd rather be a free person who fears terrorists, than be a "safe" person who fears the government.

Well much can be done with encryption. The problem with any electronic communication is that it actually needs to be transported by cables (fiber optics or copper) and distributed by ISP's.
Wireless transport can be controlled just as easy or even easier.
The cables and the ISP's are obviously controlled by the government in Iran. This means that the government can stop all traffic or direct it and sensor it.
By using encryption the government cannot see the content. But they can see the traffic and who you are communicating with if it is a direct communication. So in the end a mass communication tool like twitter is maybe the best. It will be hard to check out every member and if you register via a proxy like http://hidemyass.com (The site could be censored away) they will not be able to trace your IP.
Your best protection lies in the masses like a flock of birds it is hard to pick a simple one. One to one communication will be to easy to spot and identify. The mere fact that the communication is encrypted would probably rise suspicion too.
As you have seen in Tunisia and Egypt it is not all that easy to control twitter. And a homepage will of course be a good thing for a common cause. In general you should expect that the government can see everything you do and act accordingly.

Re: open source
Am still looking back through my logs to get the needed information for when government shuts down internet. It could conceivably happen here, too. It's a long ways back that I got it - back when Tunisia first started their latest revolution.
