Yes your concern is well founded and correct. If you could add this site to the no Proxy for list you would stay on the Tor connection everywhere except here - that is what you want. But thanks to the bug you cannot do that in Iron.
You can do that in Firefox. It can be used again now since that horrid Gif blinking is gone (FF4).

And, since it sped up by a half mile per day or so. :P

Hey Boss, where's the link to that alpha addon you posted? I'm in here in FF, and need it, but can't find it now.

Never mind, I found it, and got it installed. The problem is it's not working - the test's failing, and I don't remember what I did before to get it to work in Firefox, other than install polipo, which is still installed. :(

This is too small for me to see. Is there any way you can p.m. it to me at full size? I need to see another thing or two on it. Thanks.

I'll post a new pic. Remember to put tor and polipo in your daemons in /etc/rc.conf (if you have this in Arch).

And if you have trouble starting it go to a terminal and write

Code: Select all

tor

Edit: Lemme know if it worked for you - If not, it is entirely my fault and I'll give it another go.

Okay, Tor is definitely in daemons, and I have vidalia set to start on login in Startup Applications, and starts just fine when I login, so that's not a worry.

I didn't know we had to have polipo in daemons, too. That's what I bet the issue is.

Thanks so much! Knew I was missing something!

Will try in just a bit. :)

Oh please hurry - I am dying to set the solved mark on this important issue.

We try to provide that private space (human right) for you where no one can see. That is what this issue is about - kind of.

Not quite yet, Boss. I'm dealing with trying to resolve several issues at once (one of them being your KDE logout issue), and am having issues with those as well.

I've tried it so far with polipo just in Startup Applications - no dice.

I'm going to try as a daemon next in /etc/rc.conf - but I have to go pick up my grandson from school. I'm leaving it right here so I know what I have to try next.

Your should remove poliepo from startup and put it in the daemons.

Interesting that polipo does not work or run if put in Startup Applications, that it will ONLY work if put in /etc/rc.conf as a daemon. What's interesting about this, is if I take Tor out of rc.conf as a daemon, and just have it in Startup Applications, it works just fine.

Interesting also, that when it's enabled in FF4, it does not allow me to click links on any page, or go to anywhere from where I am.

Interesting also, that I can not get it to work if I have anything at all in the http or ssl fields, but works with sox proxy only:

*almost* there. At least it runs at all now, and passes the test in addon prefs. Just have to work out the kinks now.

Edit: I see we cross-posted here. I was testing polipo in Startup Applications deliberately.

The links stuff happens when you turn on and off. Reload the page and you should be fine. It happened to me too.
To test it turn on and off the onion at http://whatismyip.com
But you never have to do that when you add your trusted sites at the bottom then you can always run proxy.
Of course flash and youtube will be toast when you run a proxy. That stuff can be programed to reveal your identity. To see it you could use an "unsafe" browser to surf trusted sites with that kind of content.

No. I have reloaded FF several times since I made my last post to this thread. Every time, with the onion enabled, I can not click on any links anywhere, at any page. I can't even click "Post reply" to this thread.

Another example of what's going on: Without the onion enabled, I just clicked on whatismyip.com from your last post. It was fine, gave me my i.p. at that time. I then tried to reload it with the onion enabled; it didn't even give me the dialog that I would have to hit it up again in the location field. That tab just crashed when I tried to. Something is still clearly wrong.
