An open letter from Rocky Banda, LC-9 Coordinator, regarding a local upcoming event for Mental Health Awareness month:
Rocky Banda wrote:As the LC-9 Coordinator, I am asking for your participation in our upcoming event on May 3, 2011, in bringing awareness to our community. May 2011 has been established as Mental Health, Child Abuse, and Substance Abuse month. We as a collaborative are going to be presenting a night of fun, and lots of dancing, with participation from local leaders in our community! Without our community's support, awareness is not an option. As a whole we can create an awesome event that will continue to bring awareness to our communities, and will be a night to remember! If you would like to donate, or be a part of this cause, all it takes, is to come out, and enjoy a great evening! LC-9 is inviting you to attend, for this fun evening, which is for such an important cause.
Although we may not deal with mental health, substance abuse, or child abuse issues directly, we all know someone who fights this battle daily, and who needs their voice to be heard. As well, we will be working within our schools to promote mental heal awareness and issues in a desire to help better inform children and teachers alike, about mental health awareness in general. The children have been offered the option of purchasing a "chain link" for $.25 (USD). Our goal as a collaborative, is to link Clovis and Portales, 1 mile at a time. All money raised will go to future endeavors within our communities. For this event, we are currently seeking sponsors. Please read on for more information on this ever so important event:

KAG, for Rocky Banda
On a personal note, this is what I have been working on all week, is volunteer work for this event, much the same kind of work that I did when I worked a temporary job for United Way several years ago. I'm proud of what we've accomplished for this; however, we did not have time to get the letters out to everyone that we needed to by the deadline we had. Please, feel free to share this with any/all local (or even not local if you please) businesses and non-profit organizations that you can, if you wouldn't mind. Thanks so much!
