Oh, no, there are no "super duper special settings" to be wronk.

Look again at my post. It said it wants to remove XORG-SERVER, NOT xf86-video-v4l!!!! Why do you think I'm so pissed?

STOP with the "special settings" shit, and sounding like certain other people I know. I have no more than any other regular Linux user does that makes their own computers do what they need them to do. When something's WRONG, it's WRONG! I've already come across two of their "super-special bugs", posted them right here on this forum, they were REAL, AND I helped get them fixed. So there. :p :p :p

You could switch it with xf86-video-vesa 2.3.0-5 I use it and the update went fine.
From the news on Archlinux.org:
nvidia-173xx and nvidia-96xx removed from [extra]
2011-04-15
The nvidia-173xx and nvidia-96xx driver packages have been removed from our repositories as they are incompatible with newer xorg servers. This can only be fixed by an upstream update, which has not happened yet.
For most video cards, the best alternative should be xf86-video-nouveau; see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau
As lower-grade options, you might also consider xf86-video-nv and xf86-video-vesa: simply remove the old nvidia driver(s), install these, and the xorg server
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Right, but I'm not on 173xx or 96xx either one. I'm on the latest up to, but not including, this update.

Does that make a diff?

I think this is the important part.

Yeah, kind of what I thought it would turn out to be. Thanks. :)

I got it. :)

Whenever I see update issues like that pop up, I re-try in init 3. Works like a charm every single time. :)

Now, if they'd fix my damn sound, I'd be real pleased.

Yeah a Sound-Berserk without sound is no good. I don't have speakers on my Arch box so I am not much help. :confused

I have sound, but I don't have input on it. notification-daemon isn't working, and I rely on it a lot for things. :\

Also, my speaker tests are still failing. But when I play back something, like a youtube vid or an mp3 or whatever, it's fine.

Yeah, you're right though; someone as sound-based as I am it's not good for. My sight is really bad any more, so rely on sound for some things.

Yeah, I've been trying to deal with this all day. It's just not working. Reverting to the former. :(
